Estelle Katherine Rudebusch was born April 14, 1920 on a farm near Ortley, SD to William and Annie (Crooks) Rudebusch. She went to country schools in Roberts County and near White, SD through grade 6. The family moved to a farm north of Brookings where she attended Grandview District #1 for grades 7-8 and Brookings High School, graduating in 1938. When her mother was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease at an early age, Estelle assumed responsibility for caring for her parents and two younger brothers. She found the love of her life living on the farm across the road and married Glen Felt in 1942. They purchased and moved to the adjacent farm where they lived out the rest of their lives. Estelle was a wonderful wife and mother, working hard on the farm alongside her husband and raising their four children. A member of First Lutheran Church, she was active on many committees and Circle 4, involved in prison ministry, Meals on Wheels, taking communion to home bound members and teaching Sunday School. She was also active in the Community Club, North View Extension Club, Wednesday Club, 4-H and Eastern Star. Estelle's great gifts were caring for family and friends and living out her faith through serving others. She loved her farm and family and enjoyed cooking, gardening, quilting, sewing and traveling with Glen. She is survived by her four children, James (Heather) Felt of Rye, Colorado, Nancy (Bill) Hendrickson of Excelsior, MN, Patricia Berge of Milwaukee, WI and Janet (Tim) Fergen of Brookings, SD; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild; one brother, Robert (Donna) Rudebusch of Rapid City, SD and many nieces and nephews.
