STEPHEN H. TURNER BIOGRAPHY submitted by: Dolores Owen My great great grandfather was Stephen H. Turner. He is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Olivet, SD. Stephen was born in Canada on Nov 13, 1837. He married Sarah J. Pooler of Syracuse, New York in Eaton Rapids, Michigan on Mar 18, 1867. (Sarah was born April 1852 and I am unable to find her burial spot or death date. She is listed in the 1905 state census, but not in 1910.) Sometime between 1872 and 1876, Stephen moved his family to Hutchinson County, Dakota Territory from Eaton County, Michigan. This family had 9 children by 1900, two of which had died. Of the 9, there appears to be a set of twins, Abba and Abner. I have not found the twins in any records but the 1880 census. Known children are: 1. Lewis Borgard Turner, born Jun 20, 1869 in Hastings, Michigan amd died Oct 10, 1924 in Ft. Pierre, SD. (My great grandfather) 2. Henry R. Turner [No information available] 3. Arlington Norman Turner, born Mar 29, 1886 in Hutchinson Co., SD and died Jan 1968. 4. Charles William Turner, born Nov 11, 1883 in Hutchinson Co. and died 1955, buried in Mitchell, SD. 5. A.T. Turner [No information available. Mentioned in Lewis Turner's obit.] 6. Mrs. G.C. Comstock [name from Lewis Turner's obit] Stephen Turner has a monument which is a tall 4-sided structure. His information is on one side. On another side is information on Ralph C. Turner, who was about 10 years old when he died in 1891. This is probably a son. I have an obituary of Arlington's daughter, Gladys Wagner. She is buried in Wittenberg Cemetery. There is no date on the clipping other than Feb. 9th for the funeral. Her husband was Neal Wagner and there is no mention of children. A sister and brother are mentioned: Mrs. Frank Wagner (Lucille) of Olivet and Norman Turner of Lincoln, Nebr.
