GOLDEN WEDDING IS CELEBRATED.
Fifty years ago Moses Noyes Holmes and Harriet Augusta Coffin were married at Londonderry, N.H. Tuesday they celebrated their golden wedding in this city in the house in which they have lived since they came to Aberdeen in 1884.The house was tastily decorated with English ivy, hemlock and cedar brought from Seattle, Wash., by their daughter, Mrs. George Whitman. Cut flowers and ferns also were used throughout the rooms. Mr. and Mrs. Holmes sat in the big bay window which was banked with ivy and greens, and greeted their friends.
Mrs. Holmes wore her wedding dress, her engagement ring and the brooch she wore at her marriage. Her hair was done in the quaint old fashioned way of fifty years ago, with rosettes of white ribbon.
Mr. Holmes wore the white vest and tie which he wore at his wedding.
Among other mementos of the occasion to be seen were a picture of the house in which Mrs. Holmes was born and married and one of the original wedding invitations.
Of their six living children, all but two were present Tuesday. Mrs. Geo. Whitman, of Seattle, Washington; Miss Josephine Holmes of this city; Dr. Chas. Holmes of Heckla, S.D.; William Holmes, of Topeka, Kan., being the ones in attendance.
Delicious refreshments were served, and Mrs. L. L. Vroman recited J. G. Hollands, “The Golden Wedding.” Many valuable presents were received which showed the esteem in which Mr. and Mrs. Holmes are held.
Some of the guest of Tuesday have been present at the thirtieth and fortieth anniversaries of their wedding. Among out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. J. Wilson and Mrs. H. W. Cassels, of Groton.
