DENNIS P. CUMMINGS
Early Settler of the County Dies After an Illness of a Week
Dennis P. Cummings of this city died on Sunday afternoon, after an illness of only about a week of congestion of the lungs. Mr. Cummings was over 80 years of age, having been born in Frankford, N. Y., on March 8, 1823. In 1881 he came with his family to Dakota and settled in Bath township, where he had resided constantly until last July, when he removed to Aberdeen to pass his remaining life in ease in the handsome place bought by Chas. H. Cummings for him from K. O. Lee.
Mr. Cummings was in his usual good health until Sunday last, when he complained of feeling bad as the result of a cold, which developed into pneumonia and proved fatal a week afterwards. Mr. Cummings left a wife and six children to mourn his death.
Chas. H., W. A. and J. W., three sons, all live in Bath township and are among the most prosperous of the farmers of the county. The eldest daughter is Mrs. Clara Cross, living southeast of Aberdeen, and two younger daughters, Misses Minnie and Alice, are residents of Aberdeen.
The deceased was a citizen of the county who was highly esteemed, and much thought of and his death will be mourned by many people. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon, the service at the residence, corner of Ninth avenue east and Washington street, at 1 o’clock and at the Presbyterian church at 2 o’clock, the interment being at Riverside cemetery.
