Peter C. Erickson
Peter C. Erickson, a pioneer of Gem township, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Albert E. Nelson, living 2 1/2 miles northeast of Stratford, this morning, at 7:30 o’clock. Death came after an illness of several years, the 70 year old pioneer having been confined to his bed for the past five weeks.
In 1920 the suffered a stroke of paralysis, from which he never fully recovered. He was highly respected in his community and will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. He was born in Denmark 70 years ago and came to this country in 1872, settling in Wisconsin until 1880 when he came to South Dakota. He took up a claim 15 miles southeast of Aberdeen and has lived at that place for many years.
He was married to Jacobine Jacobson at Watertown 43 years ago. To this union were born three sons and one daughter, Holger J. Erickson of Gem township, Herman, who passed away eight years ago, Aksel C. Erickson of Portland, Oregon and Mrs. Albert E. Nelson of Gem township. His wife preceded him in death on July 19, 1926. In 1919 he retired from farming and built a new home on his farm, where Mr. and Mrs. Erickson lived until her death.
The body was taken to the Huebl chapel to be prepared for burial. No funeral arrangements have been made.
