Hecla Standard: Mrs. Susan A. Head was born in Schuylkill county, Pennsylvania, on the 21st day of February, 1822, and was married to John H. Head March 23, 1843, in Illinois, and in 1882 moved to Dakota and settled at Watertown and the following year moved to Liberty township. Unto this union nine boys were born, James B., Martin, John, William, Charles, Irwin, Jesse R., Thomas D., and Edward F., of which only six survive, the father having passed away in March, 1881. At the time of death she was 90 years, 3 months and 3 days old, having passed into the great beyond on Friday, May 24, 1912, at 1 o’clock p.m. of old age. 

The funeral services were held at Union Temple on Sunday, May 26, 1912, at 2 o’clock p.m. Rev. Mr. Brown officiating, after which the remains were laid to rest in Portage cemetery, followed by a large procession of sympathetic relatives and friends to pay their last respects to an old and beloved pioneer. 

She leaves to mourn her loss six sons, James, Martin, Irwin, Tom, Jesse and Ed., besides a host of other relatives and friends. The Standard joins in sympathy for the bereaved ones in this their sad affliction.
