Mrs. Joe Mathieu 

Mrs. Joe Mathieu died Sunday Morning of chronic Bright’s disease at her home six miles southeast of Stratford. The funeral was held from the residence Wednesday afternoon at 1 o’clock, Rev. A. J. Tiffany officiating. Interment was at Oakwood cemetery in Rondell township. 

Johanna M. Greul was born at Gestein, Germany, February 23, 1869. She came to America with her mother, in 1884 the family settling on a claim in northern Spink County five and one-half miles south of Stratford where the mother, Mrs. Christina Staudacher, still resides. 

On June 9, 1886, Johanna Greul was married to Joseph Mathieu in Spink county and moved to the Mathieu claim where she resided until her death. Six children were born of the union, four of whom survive, they being Joe Mathieu, Jr., a merchant at Stratford; Benjamin, Vera and Mabel Mathieu, all living at home. Five sisters and a brother also survive, in addition to the mother. They are Mrs. Minnie Rossow, Mrs. Martha Rattle, Ferney; Mrs. Rosa Miller, Stratford; Miss Anna Staudacher, at home; Mrs. Mary Gensmer, San Francisco; George Staudacher, at home. The deceased was very popular in Stratford and vicinity, and was a member of the Royal Neighbors lodge there.
