A SHINING MARK
Unexpected Death on Thursday Evening of Frank S. McArthur
(From the Daily News of January 21st)
Many scores of people received a shock Thursday night and Friday when they learned of the sudden and unexpected death of Master Frank McArthur, son of Fred J. McArthur, and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Jno. McArthur. While it was known he was very ill of scarlet fever, and had been so since Monday last, it was generally thought good care and nursing would gradually restore him to customary health. At times Thursday his condition seemed improved and gave encouragement.
The attack was too severe, however, and the poison of the disease too deeply seated in his system to be thrown off. About 9 o’clock at night while the patient was asleep paralysis of the heart ensued, and in but an instant as it seemed to those who watched him the spirit took its flight and human suffering was ended forever. The members of the household could at first hardly realize the heavy bereavement that had fallen upon them, and its gradual realization plunged them into profound sorrow and most affecting grief.
Frank McArthur was born 13 years ago at Ordway, this county, and his little round of life was spent in that village and in Aberdeen. He removed with his father to Aberdeen in 1880, and a few years ago united with the M. E. Church. He was a member of the Sunday school from infancy. He had a particularly lovable disposition and attracted and held the friendships of those who were much older than he. He was studious and thoughtful, appreciative of life and its friendships and associations, and mercurial in the best sports and diversions of the day for the young. His death brings much genuine sorrow to those who had his acquaintance, and the warm hand of sympathy and condolence will be extended those relatives whose hearts are today torn by the sense of their loss.
