John E. McCann
John E. McCann, 65 years old, a resident of Eagle Butte, but who has been spending the past three years in Aberdeen taking treatments, died yesterday morning at the Commercial hotel, following a lingering ailment of over four years’ duration.
The deceased was an old resident of Eagle Butte and has a large circle of friends there who will be grieved to learn of his death. during his stay in Aberdeen Mr. McCann had gained a large number of friends through his pleasing personality and his happy countenance will greatly missed in hotel circles.
John McCann was born in Monterey, Wis., in 1850, where he lived the greater part of his life. At the opening of the reservations Mr. McCann and his wife came to South Dakota and were among the first white people to settle at Eagle Butte. Here they resided until about three years ago, when Mr. McCann was forced to come to Aberdeen because of failing health.
Besides his wife, the deceased leaves one brother, Albert McCann of Monterey, Wis., two sisters, Mrs. Mary Newman of Monterey, Wis., and Mrs. May Moore of Chicago. The body will be shipped to Oconomowoc, Wis., where funeral services and burial will take place.
