MILBRANDT FUNERAL

Child Who Died From Swallowing Butter color Laid to Rest

Westport, S. D., June 12 - (Special to the American.) — The death of little Walter Milbrandt, the two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Milbandt, of Westport, was one of the saddest owing to the fact that on Friday last, during his mother’s momentary absence from the room, he climbed upon a chair, and reaching to the upper shelf of the cupboard secured a bottle of butter color and swallowed some of the contents. Only a small quantity of the color was missing from the bottle, but the parents, and grandparents immediately phoned for a physician and did everything in their power to counteract the poison, although the physicians did not seem to consider the coloring as especially dangerous.

The little one rallied and seemed better until Saturday noon when he rapidly grew worse, and, in spite of every effort and care that loving hearts could suggest, he passed quietly away at 5:30 Saturday evening, June 8th, at the home of his grandparents, Mr and Mrs. J. C. Siemann.

The funeral was held Monday, June 10th, the relatives and friends gathering at the home of Mr. Siemann and following the tiny casket to its last resting place in the German Lutheran cemetery near Sand Lake. The church was crowded to the utmost and those of the friends who could not be present showed their love and sympathy by the many and beautiful flowers ordered from Aberdeen and which — owing to the kindness and exquisite taste of Mrs. F. C. Benjamin of that city, who kindly undertook to fill the orders— were beautiful indeed.

The sorrowing parents and relatives have the sincerest sympathy of the entire community in this their sad bereavement.
