Claremont, S. D., June 5 — Died, at her home, three miles north of town, June 2d, Mrs. R. M. Northrop, aged 66 years. It is with deep regret and sorrow and with deep and heartfelt sympathy for the aged husband and children we record the above. By her death a husband loses a true and loving wife, and the children a kind, thoughtful mother.
She was born in the Isle of Man in 1834. With her parents she came to this country in 1852 and settled in the state of New York. In April, 1855, she was married to Robert M. Northrop. In 1868 they moved to Michigan, where they lived until 1883, when they moved to Dakota, settling on their farm in Detroit township, where they have since resided.
Five children were born to them, viz: Mrs. O. W. Marsh of Breton, Mrs. M. J. Brownell of Minneapolis, Mrs. J. J. McClellan of Ionia, Mich., Chas. R. Northrop, and Mrs. E. A. Stocking, all of whom are living except Mrs. Stocking.
Mrs. Northrop suffered greatly during the past four years, but kept around most of the time until ten days before her death. The cause of death was cancer of the stomach. The funeral was held Monday, June 4th, at the M. D. church, of which the deceased had been a member for years, Rev. Mr. Weston preaching the sermon. The remains were interred in the Huffton cemetery. The funeral was largely attended, the Masons attending in a body. Always cheerful and amiable, she made friends with everyone with whom she came in contact, and her death will be felt throughout the neighborhood.
