EARLY GROTON PIONEER EXPIRES LAST FRIDAY 

Mrs. Swan Olson, a highly esteemed lady of this city and one of Brown County’s early pioneers, died at her home in Groton last Friday after being confined to her home since last September, suffering from the after effects of a stroke of paralysis. 

Caroline Johnson was born in Smolan, Sweden, January 6, 1848, and was married to Swan Olson on February 21, 1874, at Port Station, Indiana. Mr. Olson having preceded her in death one year and nine months ago. They resided at Port Station two years, moving to Marinette, Wis., where they lived for seven years. 

In 1883 they came to South Dakota, taking a homestead near Groton. They lived there until 1912, when they moved to Groton. Those left to mourn her loss are Mrs. Jennie Hill, Irene and Charlie Olson of Groton, Mrs. Sophia Dahl of Balgonia, Sask., Canada, John and Andrew Olson, their address unknown. Besides these she leaves two brothers, John Johnson and Joseph Osberg of St. Paul, Mrs. Martin Dick and Mrs. M. Martinson of Stillwater, Minn. 

The funeral was held at the First English Lutheran church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock conducted by Rev. Philip Dybvig, and the remains were laid to rest in Groton cemetery. Mrs. Andrew Olson, of Vernon, was an out of town attendant at the funeral.
