Groton Daily Independent, Groton SD, April 17, 1902
Veteran Thomas J. Robinson passed away at the Groton Hotel Friday evening. Deceased had been sick for many months and passed the greater part of the winter at the county hospital in Aberdeen, SD.
Deceased was a soldier in the war of the rebellion, and had always been an active member of the G.A.R. Post, of which he was commander for one year.
About the time that he and his family settled in Groton, upwards of fifteen years ago, he had a fall which injured his hip, and crippled him permanently.
His sickness of the past winter had greatly enfeebled him, and although he was up and around town on Friday, his appearance was that of a dying man. Comrades endeavored to induce him to go to the Soldier’s Home at Hot Springs, but he wouldn’t hear of it, and seemed determined to remain in Groton. His wife died about two years ago and since then the family has broken up and scattered.
The funeral occurred on Sunday last, in charge of the G.A.R., and the remains were laid to rest in Union cemetery.
