Groton Independent: Mrs. Mary Taubman passed away on Saturday morning at 11 o’clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. D. Reeves, aged 79 years, four months and twenty-three days. As noted last week she suffered a paralytic stroke on the previous Sunday. Although retaining consciousness up to the last, and showing some signs of improvement as the result of careful nursing and medical aid, her strength gradually ebbed away until death released her.
Mary Taylor was a native of Wheeling, Virginia, later living in Indiana, where she became the wife of William Taubman. Most of her married live was spent at Cedar Falls, Ia, where were born a family of four daughters and one son.
In the early eighties the family moved to Plankinton, Dakota territory. There rest the bodies of her husband, who died some years ago, and of her eldest daughter, Miss Kate, who was prominent in the educational affairs of the state, and was principal of the schools at Deadwood at the time of her death.
Funeral services occurred at Plankton yesterday, to which place the body was accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Reeves and by a granddaughter, Mrs. George Kelley, who came up from Armour. She is survived by Mrs. William Wade of Collinwood, Ohio, and Mrs. Cora DeSiguer of Oklahoma, at present staying in Groton, T. W. Taubman of Plankton, and Mrs. Reeves of Groton. The gentle voice, which was ever attuned to kindness, is hushed. Folded are the hands which were always ready for service for those about her. Sleep, mother, and may your real rest be as sweet as the hallowed memories which you have left with your children.
