MRS. JOHN WADE IS SUMMONED

Death Calls Brown County Pioneer After Seven Years’ Illness

Mrs. Mary M. Wade, wife of John Wade of this city, died at the Wade home, 922 South Jay street, Saturday night at 11 o’clock from tuberculosis of the lungs, from which she had suffered for the past seven years. The funeral will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, morning at 11:30 o’clock from the Methodist Episcopal church, Rev. O. W. Taylor and Rev. T. J. Dent conducting the services. Short prayer services will be held from the house at 11 o’clock. The body will lie in state at the residence until 11 o’clock tomorrow morning, but the casket will not be opened at the church.

Mary M. Spencer was born at Morpeth, near Ridgetown, Ont., October 23, 1860. She resided there until her marriage to John Wade at Morpeth, March 26, 1884, when they came to South Dakota and took up their residence two miles southwest of Ordway on the claim that Mr. Wade had filed on three years previous. They made their home there until coming to Aberdeen in December, 1896, where they have since resided.

Seven years ago Mrs. Wade was taken down with tuberculosis of the lungs, but was not thought to be seriously ill until August, 1911. The latter part of that month Mr. Wade took her to Albuquerque, N. M., thinking the change of climate would be of benefit, but Mrs. Wade was compelled to take her bed the latter part of November, and seeing that her case was hopeless she asked to be brought home. She returned to Aberdeen on February 23 of this year. The end did not come unexpectedly, and the sufferer was conscious up to the last moment, when she shook hands and bade several of her dear friends goodbye.

Besides the husband, two sisters and a brother survive, Mrs. James LaBaird of Kingsville, Ont., a sister, has been with Mrs. Wade continuously since last February. The other sister, Mrs. John T. Lee, resides at Blenheim, Ont., while William H. Spencer, the brother, is still making his residence on the old homestead near Morpeth, where the body will be taken for interment by the side of the parents of the deceased.

Mrs. Wade was a member of Minerva Chapter No. 5, Order of Eastern Star, and was an earnest worker in the Methodist church while her health permitted. She was secretary and later treasurer of the Methodist Ladies’ Aid society of that church, and was actively engaged in that society for many years.

The pall bearers for the funeral tomorrow will be Ira Barnes, G. S. Tusse, W. G. Bickelhaupt, C. G. Burnett, J. W. Eyestone and D. F. McPherson. The body will be shipped to Ridgetown, Ont., tomorrow afternoon on the Olympian.
