George Bacon

George Bacon one of the pioneers of the county, died last night at 8 o’clock at the Samaritan hospital, at the age of 87 years. The cause of death was primarily old age, and he had been failing for the past few years. He was accustomed to go to the hospital every once in a while for the past two years and receive treatment. The funeral will take place at Huffton on Monday.

Mr. Bacon was born March 7, 1821, in New York state, and came to Brown county in March 1882, from Illinois, settling near what is now Huffton. Two sons, Amos, of Huffton, and William, of Los Angeles, Cal., are the only surviving members of the immediate family, his wife dying before Mr. Bacon removed to South Dakota, and being buried at Flint, Mich. Mr. Bacon donated a tract of land on his farm for use as a cemetery, and had often expressed a desire to buried there, and this request will be complied with.
