Aberdeen Daily News Wednesday, Oct 21, 1914 

Andrew Ballweg, for eleven years a resident of Aberdeen, and one of the prominent members of Robert Anderson post G. A. R., passed away last evening at 7 o’clock at the family home, 202 South Lloyd street. The end came following quite an illness, which began to look serious about a week ago. He had been failing in health, however, for some time. 

Deceased was born in Baden, Germany, October 28, 1845, and came to America in 1852. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Weldenberg, June 18, 1872, and became a resident of South Dakota in 1881. Mr. Ballweg had resided in Aberdeen for eleven years. At one time he served as justice of the peace and at the time of his death was a member of the city park board. Mr. Ballweg was a member of Robert Anderson post G. A. R. and had held all of the offices in the local post. He served in the civil war as a private in Company K, Second Wisconsin regiment of infantry, having enlisted at Madison, Wis., on January 26, 1864. Mr. Ballweg was 18 years of age when he enlisted and saw some hard fighting at Spottsvania, the battle of the Wilderness, and was with Grant in his final campaign which culminated in the fall of Richmond. Mr. Ballweg was a member of the Knights of Columbus and of the Union Veterans’ Union of Aberdeen. He is survived by his wife and seven children as follows: George Ballweg, Bath; Frank in Aberdeen; Peter at Buchanan, N. D.; Andrew at Columbia; Theodore at Beloit, Wis.,; Rose in Aberdeen, and Mrs. Charles Wiesmantel of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted at the residence at 8:30 o’clock Friday morning and at Sacred heart church at 10 o’clock. Rev. Father Dermody will officiate. Interment will be in the Catholic cemetery.
