Aberdeen Daily News Friday, Dec 31, 1897
Donald Cameron, one of the oldest residents of Aberdeen, died at his home this morning at 4:30 o’clock, after an illness of only six days. His sickness dated from last Friday, when he was attacked by bronchitis in a very severe form. His advanced age gave the ailment a strong advantage and, while everything possible was done for his relief, it became apparent twenty-four hours before the end came that he could not recover.
Donald Cameron was born in Scotland sixty-two years ago, where he married and lived until 1875, when he emigrated to Canada, remaining there until the boom days of Dakota. He came to Brown county in 1881, settling upon land a few miles west of this city. He has lived in Aberdeen ever since there has been a town here, and has been an exemplary and esteemed citizen. He was a member of the Presbyterian church, as was also his wife, who died last May. He leaves five children surviving him— Mrs. James Ladd of Edmunds county, Mrs. E. Arthur of Oskaloosa, Iowa, A. L. Cameron, Miss Jessie Cameron and James Cameron, all of Aberdeen.
The funeral will be held from the late residence of the deceased tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock. All of the children are here except Mrs. Arthur, who is at present passing through a serious illness at her Iowa home and is unable to travel.
