Aberdeen Weekly News Thursday, Dec 22, 1898
Carlisle, S. D., Dec 19— The remains of Roderick Hill were conveyed from Aberdeen last Thursday to the Murray school house, where the funeral services were held at 2 p.m. The day was warm and beautiful, rendering it comfortable for one of the largest funeral gatherings which ever occurred in this township. Rev. McCullock delivered a very earnest and interesting address from the words “The Master has come and he calleth for thee.”
At the close of the service the remains were borne by the pall bearers to the cemetery and placed in their final resting place. It will be remembered that Mrs. Hill died last March. Thus lie side by side the remains of Mr. and Mrs. Hill.
Coming from the state of Wisconsin in 1883, during the well remembered rush to this country, they established their home where they resided to the time of their death. Mr. and Mrs. Hill were always among the first to respond to the necessities in sickness or in any case where kindness is in demand. In short, with open hearts and ready hands they always did what they could.
Mr. Hill was taken sick some four weeks ago, and moved to Aberdeen to be in the kind hands of his daughter, Mrs. Von Eschen, and more convenient to medical treatment, but the disease had become so firmly seated, that together with his advanced age of nearly 74 years, it seemed to hold the mastery from the start. The bereaved family has the sympathy of the entire community.
