Wetonka, S. D. Dec 12 — The community was greatly shocked to hear of the passing away of one of their pioneer residents, Mrs. Fannie Huntley. The deceased was in the best of health prior to the day of her death. She was seized in the morning by a paralytic stroke and was lying across her bed when found by her son George. The son did all he could to revive his mother and summoned medical aid but to no avail. She passed away at 1:45 Sunday, December 9, 1917, without regaining consciousness.
Fannie Cobb was born in Louisville, Mo., September 15, 1854, and was married February 6, 1876, to Robert A. Huntley at Middleton, Mo. They came to Westport, S. D., in 1882, and shortly after located near Leola, where she resided until the time of her death, her husband having passed away nineteen years ago. The deceased was survived by eight children, Samuel E. Huntley, Orra Benscoter, Ella M. Broadbent, all of Wetonka; George Hiuntley and Emma Page of Leola; Grace E. Benscoter of Frederick, Maude E. Grabler of Bend, Ore., and Carrie A. Porter of Roselle, Alta, Canada; also three brothers and three sisters and fifteen grandchildren. All of the children were at her bedside at the time of her death except Maude, Ella and Carrie. She was a member of the Presbyterian church at Leola and of the R. N. of A. She was a great worker in the Red Cross, Ladies’ Aid and other organizations. The deceased will be greatly missed, as she was a kind neighbor, a loving mother and highly respected by all who knew her. The funeral was held at the M. E. church Tuesday at 1 p.m. conducted by Rev. Mr. Whiteside. Burial at the Green Mound cemetery.
