Duncan D. McRae, father of Mrs. W. F. Hall and Mrs. F. J. McArthur, died at his residence on south Jay street Sunday afternoon at 4:45 o’clock from the effects of la grippe and general debility. He had been ailing for a week or ten days, but a fatal termination was not anticipated by the members of his family until a short time before he breathed his last. The funeral services were held from the residence at 10 o’clock Wednesday forenoon and were led by Rev. C. C. Todd. The burial occurred at Riverside. Mr. McRae had not a general acquaintance in Aberdeen by reason of his short residence here and uniformly poor health.
He was born Oct. 12, 1823, and spent nearly all his life at Cornwall, Ont., where he was engaged in the lumber business. He came to Aberdeen in August, 1892, in quest of his health, which was badly shattered, and outside of his immediate neighbors and members of the Presbyterian church congregation had few acquaintances here. Those who did know him speak in the very highest terms of his character as a husband, parent and citizen and know that his crown of righteousness is safe for him. During all his long life he was a member of the Presbyterian church and was an earnest, practical Christian, faithful in every duty and shirking no responsibility.
The immediate mourners are the wife, five daughters and two sons. The daughters are Mrs. Richard Willing, of Fornier, Ont., and Mrs. W. F. Hall, Mrs. F. J. McArthur and the Misses Belle and Alice McRae, all of Aberdeen. The sons are Duncan, a resident of Melita, Manitoba, and Master Willie, who made his home with his parents.
