The Groton Independent Tuesday, Sep 29, 1914

On Sunday morning the sad intelligence was conveyed among the friends of Mrs. E. L. Riker that she had peacefully passed away at about 8 o’clock. She was stricken with paralysis of the left side about four weeks ago. Her decline was gradual, attended with painful suffering the last two nights prior to the last when she sank into a comotose stated in the early evening and remained unconscious until her death sunday morning.

Mrs. Etha Lind Terhune Riker was born in Viroqua, Wis., Jan. 3, 1864 and was the fourth daughter of Hon. Judge W. F. and Margaret Terhune. Owning to a protracted illness of her mother she was taken for care by Mrs. Terhune’s sister, Mrs. Van Bergen of Coxsackie, N. Y., and by whom she was tenderly reared and educated. Her first visit to the Viroqua home was at the age of 16, since when she made occasional pleasure trips to her parents during their life time.

She was married to Dr. E. L. Riker of Lincoln Hospital, New York City about sixteen years ago, and with whom she spent seven years of happy married life. On Dr. Riker’s death she returned to her family home in Wisconsin, where she lived with the family for two years before coming to Groton.

Deceased is survived by two children, Etha Lind and Katherine, of Groton; also three brothers, Leonard of Groton; Fred of Montana, and La Force, of Wisconsin. Owing to the lateness of the hour the funeral obsequies, which were under the supervision of Mrs. Frank James, assisted by Mrs. R. A. Mather, will be announced later.
