Simon Stablein, one of the pioneer settlers of Brown county, died at 7 a.m. Tuesday of convulsions after a very sudden illness. He had been feeling a little nervous for the past few days but otherwise has been in fairly good health, until that morning when some of the family went to his room and found him on the floor near his bed in a fainting spell. Mr. Stablein said that he had had a convulsion, and Dr. Murdy was summoned immediately. When he arrived, Mr. Stablein was still in a convulsive state and died in a very short time.
Mr. Stablein was born in Germany 64 years ago last February, but came to this country while still a young man and became a citizen of the United States. He served throughout the Civil war in the Navy and after that, in 1882, came to South Dakota, locating on a homestead five miles southwest of Aberdeen, which he lived on until a year ago, when it was sold and the family moved to town.
He is survived by a wife and leaves one son, Chas. M. Stablein, who lives in the city now, being employed by the McArthur Piano company. Mr. Stablein, Sr., has always been a member of the G. A. R. and was one of the most prosperous and respected citizens of the county. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2:30 from the Methodist church and will be conducted by Dr. Taylor. The members of the G. A. R. will march from there to the church.
