Thomas Odell Thome

Thomas O. Thome died late Saturday night after an illness of several months. It was known for some time that he could not last long and when his death became known early Sunday morning a great sadness filled the community for Mr. Thome was a man much thought of and had many friends who will greatly miss him. 

Thomas Odell Thome was born June 5, 1841, at Nashville, Homles county, Ohio. He with his parents moved from there in 1851 to Lipton, Iowa. In the fall of 1861 he enlisted as a soldier in Company E of the Eleventh Iowa Infantry. He served through the war and took part in over twenty general engagements. On the 22nd of February, 1870, he was united in marriage to Miss Mina E. Dwinell of Lipton, Iowa. 

Two children blessed this union, one of whom, Jennie, died in childhood and the son, Scott Thome, died about five years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Thome came to this community in 1883, where they have resided ever since. He leaves to mourn his death a wife, three brothers, David J. Thome, Albion, Neb., who was present at the funeral, Robert D. Thome of Loretta, Neb., Charles H. Thome of Modera, Cal., and one sister, Mrs. Emma Ralston of Lake City, Iowa. 

Funeral services were conducted at the Congregational church Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock by the pastor, Rev. H. G. Adams, and Rev. Mr. Deeble of Highmore.
