A large concourse of people attended the funeral services for Clyde Walter Barr, held this afternoon at the Presbyterian church. Rev. Mr. Todd officiated, and preached a very feeling and consoling discourse. Music, very appropriate to the occasion and generally selected by Clyde before his death, was rendered by members of the old-time church choir. The pall bearers were young friends and companions of the deceased — C. E. Kill, J. F. Whitaker, Ed [?] Brandes, Roy Tennant, Neil Lilley and Murray Laidlaw. The floral tributes were profuse and exquisite. Nearly fifty carriages followed the remains to the cemetery.

Mar 3, 1898 — After months of intense pain and suffering, which he bore with the patience and fortitude of one of the old martyrs, the spirit of Clyde Walter Barr, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Barr, winged its flight at 1:40 o’clock this afternoon to its home on high. Up to nearly 6 o’clock this morning he was conscious and had a keen sense of his situation. Shortly before he lost himself in dreamless sleep that was to be his last he bade his parents good by and spoke with much calmness, even with great relief, of the change he was fast approaching.

Many days ago, and from time to time, he talked over the preparations he desired to have made for his funeral, and it is said selected the hymns he wished to have sung on that occasion, the pall bearers, etc. He was always hopeful in the presence of death, for he had a never failing reliance upon and trust in the saving power of his Heavenly Father.

Clyde was born at Grafton, W. Va., but spent the greater part of his career in Aberdeen. His life, his cheery, sunny nature and hopeful characteristics were well known to everyone. For years he fought off the insidious attacks of consumption. His was naturally a brave, strong nature which would not shirk from any duty or call. The frailties of the body, however, limited his sphere of usefulness, and gradually crushed out the young life altogether. The NEWS is unable to announce at this hour when the funeral services will be held, as arrangements have not been fully made. Rev. C. C. Todd, pastor of the Presbyterian church, will have charge.
