The funeral of the late J. L. Murphy took place Friday morning from Sacred Heart church and was attended by a very large number who paid last respects to the remains of the young man so universally liked. The procession left the family residence at 9 o’clock and the services were conducted at Sacred Heart church by Father Dahlmanns, the church being completely filled to hear the sermon.
After the services at the church, the body was escorted to the Northwestern depot and taken to Columbia on the noon train where it was interned in the family lot in the cemetery at that place. Father Feldmeier in charge.
The pall bearers were P. M. Rigors and J. C. Daly of this city, G. H. Atkins, J. S. Vaughan, W. A. O’Kane and M. J. White, all of Breckenridge, and train mates of the dead conductor. A number of people were here from out of the city, especially from Breckenridge, where the deceased was well known through his railroad work.
