Aberdeen Weekly News Thursday, Feb 15, 1900

G. S. Rhoades, who had been suffering from pneumonia, complicated with heart disease, died at his residence in this city Saturday forenoon. Mr. Rhoades came to Aberdeen several years ago, and was most favorably known. He had for many years been in the employ of the Great Northern railway as conductor, and for the greater part of a number of years had run between Aberdeen and Breckenridge. Mr. Rhoades would have been 64 years old in March.

Besides a wife he leaves a daughter, Miss Mande Rhoades, and a son, Warren Rhoades, all of whom live here, a married daughter whose home is in Wisconsin, and another son, Dr. Rhoades of Wisconsin. The latter arrived in the morning before his father’s death. A wide circle of friends will mourn the death of Mr. Rhoades and deeply sympathize with the bereaved family.

Mrs. Rhoades and her two sons accompanied the remains to White Pigeon, Mich., where the interment took place. The Masons escorted the body from the residence to the Milwaukee depot Sunday evening. The funeral services over the remains of the late G. S. Rhoades were held at the family residence Sunday evening, the services being conducted under Masonic auspices. The deceased was a charter member of the Frederick lodge of the order, and J. R. Ward and T. H. Fylpaa, were present to represent that lodge, there being about fifty Masons present altogether.

The funeral music was sung by Mr. and Mrs. Voedisch and Mr. and Mrs. Bushnell, and Rev. Dr. N. A. Swickard offered prayer and made a short address, followed by A. F. Mulligan, worshipful master of Aberdeen lodge, J. R. Ward and F. A. Brown. The remains were accompanied to the Milwaukee depot by the Masons and were started on the evening train for White Pigeon, Mich., where the interment will take place.
