MRS. CHAS. MAYER DIES SUDDENLY
Farm Mother Succumbs in Hospital After Short Illness; Funeral Service Thursday Afternoon
Mrs. Charles Mayer, young farm mother, and lifelong resident of this community, died early Monday in a Yankton hospital after only three days of critical illness.
Mrs. Mayer was taken ill during Thursday night and lapsed into a coma. Her condition was discovered early Friday morning when she failed to awake and efforts to arouse her were futile. She was taken immediately to the hospital. Her condition did not improve and she lost strength until she passed away.
Funeral services will be held Thursday of this week at the Mayer home south of Wakonda at 1:30 p.m. and the Methodist church in Wakonda at 2 o’clock. The Rev. F. C. Kattner will officiate. Burial will be in Wakonda Union Cemetery with the burial service in charge of Rebekah lodge members.
Olevia Thrane Mayer was born April 10, 1900, at Wakonda, S.D., the daughter of Frank and Mabel Thrane, and died January 25, 1943, age 42 years, 9 months.
She completed high school here and attended college in preparation for teaching and was a successful teacher for several years.
Olevia Thrane and Charles Mayer were united in marriage June 10, 1924, and the family home was established on the Mayer farm south of Wakonda.
Mrs. Mayer was an active member and responsible leader in various community organizations. She had serves as president of the Women’s Society of the Methodist church, and was a past noble grand and past district deputy assembly president of the Rebekah lodge. She was a member of the Cu He Lo Study club and aided in many other community activities.
There is nothing good about a young mother that could not be said about Mrs. Mayer. She was devoted to her family, liberal in giving time and energy wherever she could be of service, generous and loyal in her friendships. She held the love and esteem of the people among whom she had lived all her life.
Mrs. Mayer is survived by her husband and two children, Luverne Herbert, 17, and Lois Nadine, 15; by her father, F. M. Thrane; and two brothers, Lieut. Roger Thrane of Omaha, and Harold Thrane of Bellingham, Wash. Her mother died last September.
Lieut. Roger Thrane arrived at home Monday evening and Harold will arrive in time for the funeral.

Mrs. Olevia M. Mayer, 43, a lifelong resident of Wakonda, passed away Monday at a Yankton hospital. Her body was brought to Vermillion by Frank M. Olds and prepared for burial. Funeral services are to be held at Wakonda this afternoon at the Methodist church, with Rev. Kattner officiating. Burial will be in the Union Center Cemetery at Wakonda.
Mrs. Mayer was the daughter of Frank Thrane, Wakonda resident, the wife of Charles W. Mayer.
She is survived by her husband, two daughters (sic—one son and one daughter), Luverne and Lois, her father and two brothers.
