VERMILLION, S.D. — Edward A. Olson, 43, of rural Vermillion died Friday in a Sioux City hospital following an accident at his farm home on Thursday.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Dalesburg Baptist Church of rural Beresford. The Rev. Randy Stauter will officiate. Ashes will be buried in the church cemetery under the direction of Iverson-Siecke Funeral Home. There will be a Scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion.
Mr. Olson was born May 20, 1942, in Vermillion, and graduated from Vermillion High School in 1964. He participated in the ROTC program while a student at University of South Dakota. He graduated from USD in 1968 as a second lieutenant and served in the U.S. Army for two years.
After his discharge, he worked for the CIA in the state of Washington until 1975. He then worked for the Sylvania Co. in California until 1979 when he returned to Vermillion and was engaged in farming.
He married Arlene Manning on Jan. 18, 1982, in Sioux Falls.
He was a member of American Legion in Alsen, the Vermillion Eagles Club and the Clay County Pork Producers and served on the Prairie Township Board.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Nichole, at home; his father, Eldon, of rural Vermillion; a brother, James, of rural Vermillion, and a sister, Judy Robinson, of rural Vermillion.
