OBITUARY - MARY M. HARE

Mary Matilda Kidd was born in Plattsburgh, N. Y. in 1842. She was married to John T. Hare at Plattsburgh in 1866 and moved to Minnesota shortly afterwards. They resided in Minnesota for three years when they moved to Lake county, Dakota Territory, being among our earliest settlers and enduring all the hardships of our pioneer days. In coming to Lake county they drove overland with a yoke of oxen, arriving here in October, forty-one years ago, without knowing what was in store for them.

They carried with them good, cheerful hearts and a strong will, and with but a little money went to work to build them a home on the east shore of the beautiful Lake Madison. It was from this same home which, after forty-five years of love and labor, that the Lord has seen fit to remove from our midst a beloved wife and mother who has ever been the sunshine in their home.

She died Tuesday morning, July 21, at 3:30 o’clock after a lingering illness of four months. She was 72 years and 21 days of age. Besides her husband who survives her, she leaves to mourn her death, three daughters, three sons, one stepdaughter, and a community of friends. She was laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery, Wentworth.
