Camp Kelly, Texas Jan 1918
Oacoma Argus Leader,
I am nicely located at this
camp and assigned to the aviation section of the
Signal Corps which is a fine branch of the
service. New men are coming in every day and
others going out. I do not know how long I will
be here nor where I will go on leave.
I wish I could take a trip to
one of our N.A. Cantonments and see what
wonderful things have been accomplished during
the last few months. They are all practically
the same but one has paved streets, lawns, trees
and all of the conveniences of a city, in fact,
a large city.
There is one thing the folks
at home should know about and that is the great
work the YMCA is doing at these camps. Every
citizen should boast about it and help it along
financially. There is no other institution that
is doing so much to help the government make
things comfortable and homelike for the
soldiers. So, whenever the YMCA subscription
list comes around I hope it will be well
subscribed.
The Red Cross is another
institution that deserves the support of every
man and woman.
We are having fine weather
here. It's just like Indian Summer.
