Army Private Sixten W. Brown
Vivian,  Lyman County, SD.   November 20, 1919 -May 29, 1942

                    

       Died May 29,1942 at Camp San Luis Obispo, California    


      Sixten W. Brown was born on his family's farm north of Vivian on November 20, 1919, to Charles Brown and Ellen Knudtson. He grew up with seven siblings, and in September of 1923, Sixten's dad died.  Sixten attended country school all of his life, and liked to ride horses and hunt for fun.

     During his high school years he worked on various farms around the area doing odd and end jobs. In his late teens, he moved to Kimball, SD to work for his uncle.
    
   
Sixten enlisted in the Army in 1942. He was a Private in Company B of the 159th Infantry Regiment in the 40th Infantry Division.  He died May 29, 1942 at Camp San Luis Obispo, California. Death occurred in the line of duty and was not due to his own misconduct.
