The Eric Olson Cemetery was founded by Eric Olson and his wife Britta Olson in about 1881 when their daughter Eva died.  Eva is buried in the cemetery as are Eric and Britta.  The Olson's had emigrated from Sweden and were active promoters of their faith in the area of North Central McCook County. 

They had founded the Sun Prairie Baptist Church in 1880.  There were Scandinavian Baptist and Lutheran churches established throughout McCook County, most had memberships that reflected a specific nationality.  However, they all seemed to thrive on providing a close community of folks with similar beliefs who were totally dependent on the land.  Their lives were focused around their churches and  related activities.   (This information provided by Clyde Ericsson.)

A listing of the burials at Eric Olson Cemetery – Section 10 – Sun Prairie Township – McCook County, gives the individual names in alphabetic order.  This listing also gives the date of birth and date of death when available.   Unfortunately, those burials without grave markers are not included because the official burial list was not available at this time.
