The Sturgis Weekly Record was founded July 1, 1883 by C.C. Moody & John Elliot. A few years later Elliot withdrew from this partnership. C.C. Moody continued to publish the Record until his death in June 1906. W. F. Waldman who had worked for Mr.Moody since the papers founding,then took over the editorial and management duties of the Record.
On December 26,1924 W.F.Waldman purchased The Sturgis Weekly Record and continued publishing it until he sold it May 30, 1946. From the time he started working for C.C. Moody until he sold the paper W.F. Waldman devoted 63 years to the Record.
In 1896 another newspaper was launched by Mr.J.H.Slater the Black Hills Press.He continued to publish said publication until 1913 when John T.Milek purchased the paper,building,and lots. Mr.Milek continued to publish the Press until his death,at which time his wife with the help of Scott Handlin continued it's publication.In October 1959 the Sturgis Tribune purchased the Black Hills Press and then published both papers.
