Photos from the Past

Some of these photos are from the Halverson Family collection, so they lean toward the north part
of Roberts County.

• Simon A. Halverson and his brothers came from Snørteland, Karmøy, Norway. Simon homesteaded in Norway Township,
  Roberts County, in 1892. His brothers used the Americanized version of the Norwegian farm name, Snortland. They settled
  near Sharon, North Dakota. The date of this photo is unknown, but probably before 1892. Simon is seated front/center.

• Simon A. Halverson homestead in Norway Township. Date of photo is unknown, but probably about 1895.

• Simon A. Halverson Farm in Norway Township about 1925.

• World War I soldiers from Roberts County. Taken in Europe in 1914. Carl Langager on the right-Ole Halverson on the left.

• Making hay with the "overshot haystacker" somewhere in Roberts County-date unknown.

• Making hay on the Lindlund Farm near Sisseton, South Dakota in 1946.

• The work team on Lindlund Farm-1961.

• E. John Craine and his wife Louisa. They came to Roberts County in 1880 and homesteaded in Becker Township.
  Also shown is a photo of the tombstone for Louisa, and a son, A. Leslie Craine. E. John Craine is buried in Valley View Cemetery,
  next to his wife and son. Valley View is located in Browns Valley, Minnesota. (Photos submitted by John Craine)

• Effington, South Dakota Baseball Team in 1897. This photo taken after the Effington team defeated Sisseton in 1897. The
  photo was submitted by Karmen Vice Nava, great-granddaughter of William Hillman, who was the Manager of the team,
  and is pictured in the photo.

• Summit, South Dakota in three views. The first is a birdseye view from the early 1900's. The second is of Main Street, looking
