Jacob Kaiser, Jr., 77, died at his home in Winner, November 8.
Funeral services were held November 10 at 1:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran church in Winner with Rev. William Leerssen officiating. Burial was in the Hope Lutheran cemetery.
Survivors include his widow, Lydia; four sons, Fredrick (Fritz), Henry (Heinie) and Arthur (Bud), all of Winner; Rueben of Colome; four daughters, Mrs. Dwane (Leona) Ellis, Sturgis; Mrs. Leonard (Clara) Vobr, Colome; Eileen, Redfield and Mrs. Frank (Judy) Swartz, Hamill; three sisters, Mrs. Paul (Amelia) Kahler, Burke; Mary Best, Vermillion and Mrs. Warner (Eva) Anderson, Millboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Olga, four sons, a daughter and four brothers.

Kaiser Services
Funeral services were held in Winner Sunday for Jake Kaiser, Jr. who passed away Friday at his home in Winner. Interment was at St. Paul’s cemetery south of Colome. Mr. Kaiser was a former area resident, having lived on a farm near Millboro for many years. He was a brother of Mrs. Warner Anderson.
Attending the services were Mrs. Anderson, Theo Kahler, John Adam, the Harry Carlson family, Mrs. Ethel Hellman, Charles and Betty and the Doyle Haley’s.

Jacob Kaiser Sr.
Jacob Kaiser, Sr., 84, a resident of Tripp County since 1912, died Thursday, May 3, at Rosebud Community Hospital after a year’s illness.
Funeral services were held in the Lutheran church at Winner on Sunday afternoon, with the Rev. Lloyd Wenzel officiating. Burial was in the Lutheran cemetery at Millboro.
Mr. Kaiser was born in Russia on January 23, 1867. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in Russia and there married Alfries Schmidt in 1889.
He and his family settled on a farm southwest of Dallas in 1912 and a year later moved to their own farm in Millboro, where he lived until a few years ago when he moved to Winner. Meanwhile, in 1941 his wife had died.
Fifteen children were born of the Kaiser marriage. Seven survive the passing father. They are Jake, Hr. Colome; Henry, Colome; George, Winner; Amelia Kahler, Burke; Mary Drath, Dallas and Eva Anderson, Millboro. Forty-eight grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren also survive.

Lydia Kaiser
Funeral services for Lydia Kaiser, 89, Winner, were held December 6 at Trinity Lutheran church in Winner with the Rev. Wm. Allwardt officiating. Burial was in the Hope Lutheran Cemetery.
She was born November 10, 1902 in Yankton County, the oldest child of John J. and Anna (Gail) Bender. She grew up on the family farm in Gregory Co. In 1934 she married Jacob Kaiser, Jr. They lived on a farm in Tripp County until they retired in 1957 and moved to Winner. She entered the Winner Nursing Home in 1983 and lived there until her death.
She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
She is survived by four daughters, Leona and her husband Dwane of Sturgis, Clara Vobr and her husband Leonard of Colome, Eileen of Redfield, Judy Swartz and her husband Frank of Hamill; four step-sons, Fritz, Heinie and his wife Verlene, Ruben and his wife Violet, Arthur (Bud) and his wife Idalee all of Winner, Eugene Bender, a brother of Scotland; 21 grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sons in infancy, one step-daughter, one step-son, two grandchildren; and three brothers.

Arthur Christian Keierleber
Arthur Christian Keierleber, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Keierleber of Linden passed away on Saturday last, after a brief illness. The funeral service conducted by the Rev. James T. Gurney was held at the home on Sunday afternoon and the remains laid to rest in the Linden cemetery. Arthur would have been a year old the 15th of March.
This is the second death from pneumonia in the Linden neighborhood in a week. Mr. and Mrs. Keierleber have the sympathy of all in their sad bereavement.

Walter Keierleber
Walter Keierleber, the four year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Keierleber died at the hospital in Colome Wednesday after two weeks illness with pneumonia.
This is the second child Mr. and Mrs. Keierleber have lost within a week. Rev. Gurney preached the third funeral sermon in our vicinity within two weeks Sunday.

Mary Larson
Mary, the little two year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jens Larson, died last Friday evening of pneumonia. The body was laid to rest Sunday in the cemetery north of town. We wish to extend our sympathy to the family, during her illness and death.

George E. Loukota
George E. Loukota, age 90, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Council Bluffs passed away February 9, 2008, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.
George was born April 27, 1917, in Ideal, South Dakota to the late Albert and Rose (Karnik) Loukota. He graduated from Winner, S.D. High School in 1935 and served our country in the U.S. Army during WWII. George worked at the Kellogg Co. for 35 years retiring in 1975.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lizzibell Loukota in 1990; 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
George is survived by his wife of 17 years, Marie Loukota of Davenport; daughter, Mary Clark of Castle Rock, Colorado; sons, James Loukota and wife Rita in Ark., Robert Loukota of Reno, Nevada, Dennis Loukota and significant other Laura Rosman of Council Bluffs; 5 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Ann Wentz in California; brother, Edward Loukota of Omaha; stepchildren, Sharon Keppy, Janet Wilker, Roger and Jim Anderson; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family, Tuesday, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Graveside service and burial, Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. in Cedar Lawn Cemetery. Military rites will be tendered by American Legion Post #2. Family and friends to meet at the mortuary at 9:30 a.m. for the cortege to the cemetery.

Carl L. Madsen
Carl L. Madsen, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Madsen, died yesterday at his home in Augusta, SD. Young Madsen graduated from the local high school in 1904 and during his school days played a star game as end and as guard on the football squad.
Last year he was one of the successful men in the Tripp County allotment and drew a good claim of 160 acres near Augusta. Recently he had opened a store in that city and was on a fair way to prosperity.
He is survived by a father and mother and one sister. The body will arrive in Council Bluffs Friday evening. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery. (Sec. C, Lot 265, 1886-Dec. 1, 1909)

Ann Ellen Mathiesen, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Axel Mathiesen, of Keyapaha, was born 1 March 1935 and died April 23, 1935.
The funeral service was conducted at the parents’ home at Keyapaha, Pastor H. S. Wold, officiating. Interment was made in Linden Cemetery, 25 April.

Glen McKean
Glen McKean, 90 died at St. Lucie Medical Center in Port St. Lucie, Fl., May 22, 2008.
He was born in Winner, S. D. His family moved to Iowa when he was 7, where he grew up and went to school.
He worked at the Social Security Headquarters in Baltimore, Md., for almost 36 years retiring as a Division Director. He subsequently moved to Florida where he worked as a real estate agent for several years and had lived in Fort Pierce, Fl. for 8 years.
He was a veteran of World War II. He entered the Army as an enlisted man and later received a commission as an officer in the Medical Administrative Corp.
He was a member of the Indian River Presbyterian Church in Fort Pierce, Fl. and a member of the Elks Club for 26 years.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; daughters, Beverly (Niles) Casebere of North East, MD., Margaret (Mark) Joiner of Rehobeth Beach, DE; brother, Lloyd (Jean) McKean of Santa Maria, CA; three stepchildren, four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one grandchild.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Harry Anna Children's Hospital P.O. Box 49, Umatilla, Fl 32784.

Esther (Weidner) Oblander
SHATTUCK, Okla. — Esther Weidner Oblander, 97, died Sunday, May 8, 2011.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Mason Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Matthew Spurgin of St. Paul Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, southwest of Follett, Texas.
Mrs. Oblander was born July 26, 1913, in the family home near Colome, S.D., to Christian and Augusta Weidner*. She married Elmer Oblander on Feb. 4, 1939.
Survivors include a granddaughter; a grandson; and two sisters, Clara McKee and Erma Redelsperger

Marie (Herrmann) [Gooby] Palmer
Marie Palmer, 89, of Sioux Falls passed away Friday December 5, 2008 at Sanford USD Medical Center.
Marie Herrmann was born on January 4th, 1919 in Dallas, SD, the daughter of John and Lydia (Miller) Herrmann. Marie received her elementary education at Edens school by Dallas. She was united in marriage to Robert Gooby in 1940. They lived on a farm near Keyapaha. Two children were born to this union, Rosemary Kay and William Robert.
Robert Gooby passed away in November 1954. She and her children then resided in Winner. In 1957 she was united in marriage to William Palmer. They made their home on a farm north of Gregory and retired in 1972. William Palmer passed away in January 1982. She has lived the last 25 years in Sioux Falls near her children.
She is survived by her children, Rosemary Schwaller and William Gooby of Sioux Falls. Four grandchildren, Dana and her husband Mike Haskell of Dupree; Casey and his wife Lana Gooby of Bloomington, MN; Jenny and her husband Dan Stephenson of Lakeville, MN; Amy and her husband Macy Richardson of Sioux Falls and seven great grandchildren. One sister Gladys and her husband Allen Rajewich of Gregory; one brother Vernon and his wife Marilyn Herrmann of Millboro and many nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lydia Herrmann; her husbands, Robert Gooby and William Palmer; four brothers, Erwin, Harold, Robert, and Walter; one sister Katherine Denny; her son-in-law John Schwaller and her grandson Shawn Schwaller.
Marie was a member of the Methodist Church in Gregory. She enjoyed music and especially listening to her brothers play old time music and hymns. Crossword puzzles were her favorite pastime. She had a warm smile for everyone and will be missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Mason Funeral Home in Winner. Burial will be in the Colome Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Monday, December 08, 2008 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Mason Funeral Home.

Lela B. Papke, age 89, of Winner, South Dakota died on Friday, January 19, 2001, at the Winner Regional Healthcare Center.
Funeral services for Lela Papke were held on Monday, January 22, 2001, at the United Methodist Church in Winner, SD.
Interment was in the Winner Cemetery.

Velma Jean Patmore
Velma Jean Patmore, 69, Winner, died Monday, Sept. 5 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Velma Jean was born Aug. 26, 1936 in Winner, the daughter of Marvin and Florence Broline.
Her first years were in Hamill. She moved to Winner at age 10, attended Winner Public School and graduated from Winner High School in 1954. She attended South Dakota State University for nursing and received her teaching certificate from Southern State Teachers College in Springfield in 1956.
Velma Jean married W. Duane Patmore on Aug. 26, 1956. They lived on a farm south of Winner, and Velma Jean taught school in rural Tripp County. She taught at Star Prairie, Northeast Washington and Milboro rural schools. In 1970, Duane and Velma Jean and family moved to Winner and purchased the Coast to Coast store from Velma Jeans' parents. Through the store, Velma Jean continued to serve the community until her death.
Velma Jean was in Eastern Star, currently serving as Worthy Matron and previously as Grand Representative to Vermont. She has been involved with many civic organizations, including Lions, Winner Regional Hospital Board, Chamber of Commerce, Winner Alcohol and Drug Board, Nursing Home Board and Winner Community Playhouse Board.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years Duane; three sons and their families: Dan (Coleen), Winner and their children Arianne, Ross and Samantha; Tim (Debbie), Sturgis and their children Jesse Jastram, Kelsey and Callie Miller, and Sam (Rusalka), Coral Gables, Fla.; and one brother Duane (Sammye) Broline of Charleston, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter-in-law, Marilee Patmore.
Velma Jean always had a kind word for everyone and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005 at 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Winner. Burial will be in the Winner Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Friday, Sept. 9 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home in Winner. A prayer service will begin at 8 p.m. followed by Eastern Star service at Mason Funeral Home.

Potter, Daughter (Ellen)
The little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Potter, of Keya Paha passed away Monday morning. She had been ill but a few days with a cold.

Edward William Raycroft
Edward William Raycroft, son of Eliza Connell and James Raycroft, was born in county Cork, Ireland, in 1854, and died at his home in Carter, S.D., of cerebral hemorrhage, Saturday, September 17, 1938.
He came to the United States in 1880, and was married in Chicago in 1883 to Miss Mary Jane Levis, who died in 1892. In 1895 he married Miss Emily Shawcroft. He was a motorman in the city of Chicago for many years previous to coming to the Rosebud in 1909, when his health demanded a change of climate.
Mr. and Mrs. Raycroft homesteaded north of Carter, afterward moving into the town where they have lived ever since with the exception of a year spent in Iowa. For the past fourteen years Mrs. Raycroft has been the postmistress in Carter, and for the past five years has taken care of Mr. Raycroft who has been in declining health. He suffered a stroke Wednesday night from which he never regained consciousness.
Mr. Raycroft was a substantial citizen, always interested in his community and the better things of life. In disposition he was genial and cheerful, a good friend and a faithful companion. He was a lifelong member of the Episcopal church and belonged to the I.O.O.F. His death is a distinct loss to his family and his community.
Funeral services were conducted at Trinity Episcopal church Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Alfred Haines, and the body was taken Wednesday to Chicago to be laid to rest in Oakwood cemetery.

Mrs. Emily Raycroft, pioneer resident of Carter, passed to her eternal reward last Friday, November 16. She had been ill but a short time and her death was a severe shock to the community. She had been the postmistress for the past eighteen years, having retired two years ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Raycroft had been actively identified with the Carter community for many years until his death and since that time she has continued her interest in the community. She had a large circle of friends who mourn her loss, for she was genial and cooperative and will be sadly missed.
She was a life-long member of the Episcopal church and an active member of the Woman’s Club, the Extension Club and Willing Workers.
Funeral services were conducted at Trinity Episcopal Church in Winner, Sunday afternoon by Rev. Earl Kneebone and the body taken to Chicago Monday morning to be laid at rest in Oakwood Cemetery beside Mr. Raycroft.
Mrs. Frank Nicholaisen accompanied the body to Chicago.

Mrs. Emily Raycroft departed this life at the age of 72 years. She was born in England and came to Southeast Chicago in 1883. She was a member of Integrity Lodge No. 562, Daughters of Rebecca, Grand Crossing.
She and her husband, Edward, came to South Dakota in 1909 and homesteaded north of Red Hills, near Carter until 1923, then sold out to become postmistress at Carter, from which position she retired in 1943.
During her very full life, she was active in civic and community betterment. She led Red Cross and bond drives and was an assistant in local OPA. She was past president of the Carter Woman’s club, and a most active member. She also was a member of the Eastern Star in Winner and a member of the Willing Workers and of the Rebecca’s. She was the oldest past president of her Chicago district at the time of her death. At the time of her funeral in Chicago, the officers of the order attended and took part in the service. Mrs. Raycroft did practical nursing most of her life, and many a person is grateful for her ministrations. She and Mr. Raycroft visited Ireland and England for one year in 1919.
Mrs. Raycroft was a devout member of Trinity Episcopal church, in Winner, at which church, her many friends gathered to hear the burial service read by her minister, Rev. Earl Kneebone.
Interment was in Chicago, with Rev. L. Strauss officiating.
Preceding her in death are her husband, Edward Raycroft, a sister, the late Mrs. Catherine Faust, and two brothers, the late Joseph and George Shawcroft.
The survivors are her two brothers, John Samuel and William of Chicago. A host of friends will miss her cheery smile. May God’s richest blessings go with her and may our memories of her service keep bright.
