The first building for the Bethesda or Tieszen Mennonite
Church was dedicated in 1883 after being built by a group of some 88
members who had separated from an earlier congregration formed in the
late 1870's. This first structure was replaced in 1909 and services
were given in German until the late 1940's. The building shown
above was dedicated in 1956 and serves a large area in northwestern
Turner County mostly populated by German Mennonite farmers who settled in
the mid 1870's after emigrating from southern Russia to obtain social and
religious freedom. |
Bethesda Church

The cemetery shown above was first utilized in 1885 and
was created on a church members farm land. It has since been
officially included as part of the Bethesda Church property and
operations. It is on the western side of section 3 and about 1/4
mile west and 1/2 mile south of the church. It presently contains
about 360 graves. |

The information regarding Tieszen Cemetery consists of 3 parts, and was prepared by Ken Tiahrt in 2006, with the generous assistance of the
cemetery sexton and other church members and may be freely copied by individuals and non-profit organizations for their private use. Any other use,
including publication, storage in a retrieval system, or transmission by electronic, mechanical, or other means requires
written approval.

A map of the cemetery showing the individual lots in relationship to the adjacent Turner County Roadway, 443 Avenue, gives the user a physical setting.2. A List of Burials
A listing of the burials at Tieszen Cemetery – Section 3 – Rosefield Township – Turner County, gives the individual names in alphabetical order and includes the cemetery section, row number, and grave site in the row. This listing also gives the year of birth and year of death when available.
