Section 26 - Home Township - Turner County
- South Dakota |
This cemetery was allowed to fall into sad neglect
for many years following the last burial in 1921. In 1984 an
Eagle Scout from Tea, South Dakota
named Curt DeYoung adopted the cemetery for a project. Curt and
his family, and the relatives of those buried in the cemetery worked
for many hours
and days mowing, removing lilac bushes and repairing and re-setting
grave markers. Curt and his family still maintain this piece of
silent prairie, silent
except for wind rustling in the grass, birds singing from the barb
wire fence, and an occasional car passing on the paved road.

There are three major parts to the information on this web page as prepared by Ken Tiahrt in 2010. Thanks are specially given to Verlyss Jacobson who provided the copies of the cemetery records to make this web page possible. Any portion of this page may be freely copied by individuals and non-profit organizations for their private use. A Cemetery Map The map of the cemetery showing the individual rows of lots in relationship to 272nd Street, gives the user a physical setting. 2. A List of Burials A listing of the burials at Norwegian Pioneer Lutheran Cemetery – Home Township – Turner County, gives the individual names in alphabetic order. This listing also gives the year of birth and year of death. The earliest being interred in 1882 and the last in 1921. This data was originally published in the Sioux Falls Argus Leader. Then rewritten for and republished in "Time For Tea", a history of Tea, South Dakota in 2002. Photos of Grave Monuments
