JOHN BROWN.
John Brown died at his home in Civil Bend township, Wednesday morning, Jan. 18, at 2:15 o’clock, of peritonitis. He had been seriously ill for two years with a heart and bowel trouble, which finally resulted in death.
John Brown was born on a farm near Owatonna, Steele county, Minn., Jan. 9, 1861. He came to Dakota with his parents when he was only five months old. And they settled on a homestead four miles southeast of this city, which was his home until his death, with the exception of a few years when he worked on the railroad. His father died here twenty-five years ago, and his mother is still living on the old homestead. He is a member of the Woodman lodge and was never married. He leaves, besides his mother, three sisters and four brothers to mourn his loss, Mesdames Thos Ryan, John Gill, Miss Kate Brown and Joseph, Will, Thos. and Charlie Brown.
He was a man of friendly disposition and sterling character, is widely known throughout the county and is universally mourned. The funeral will be attended by Father Robinson at the Catholic church in Jefferson, tomorrow (Friday) morning at 10 o’clock.
