OBITUARY — MRS. NANCY GREEN.
Mrs. Nancy Green died Tuesday evening, August 22, 1905 at 10:20 o’clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. Pace, who lives five miles south of town. The deceased died of apoplexy after an illness of about a week, being paralyzed Wednesday evening of last week.
The maiden name of the deceased was Nancy Ashmore. She was born in Clark county, Illinois on January 17, 1829. She was united in marriage to Robert R. Green in Grant county, Wisconsin, January 15, 1847. They came to Union county, April 24, 1864, and took the homestead on which she lived until a few months ago when she went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Jake Pace.
Her husband, Mr. Green, opened the first hardware store in the territory of Dakota and continued in business until 1881, when he sold out to Henry Rowe. Mr. Green died September 27, 1890.
To them were born eight children; five boys, James and Bill of Hawarden, Wash of Alcester, Shelt of Ponca, Neb., and Raphael of Civil Bend township; and three daughters, Mrs. J. Pace and Mrs. Wm. Eslick of this city and Mrs. John Shaife of Ponca. She also leaves six brothers and sisters, three of whom were with her when shed died, namely: James of York county, Nebraska, Robert of Belden, Nebraska, and Ulysses Ashmore, of Clay county, South Dakota.
The funeral was held today (Thursday) at 10 o’clock at the Jake Pace home, Rev. Campbell of the Baptist church conducting the services. The remains were buried by the side of her husband in the Elk Point cemetery.
The Courier joins with the many friends of the family in extending sympathy to the bereaved ones, who mourn the loss of this kind Christian woman.
