Isaac J. Lagger
I. J. Lagger died Friday evening, Jan. 13, at 9 o’clock, after a few days illness of pneumonia. There was little hope of his recovery from the beginning of his illness.
Mr. Lagger’s parents came from Joliet, Ill., to Sioux City, where he was born June 15, 1874, near the present site of the big Shenkberg wholesale house. He was a baker by trade. He bought a half interest in a bakery and restaurant here some five years ago and when Miss Harter died nearly two years ago he bought the other half.
By strict attention to business and so accommodating, genial ways he built up a promising trade and a well-paying business.
His marriage a year ago, he kept a profound secret for 30 days, during which time he had the whole town guessing as to who the parties were who had so recently been joined. He last fall moved across the street and took charge of the former Her Grand.
His life in Elk Point was exemplary and conscientious and a wide and warmly-attached circle of friends mourns his untimely death.
His mother died in Sioux City some six years ago, his father and brother, Frank still reside there, another brother, Andrew, lives at Norfolk, Neb. His father and brothers were here at his bedside during the closing hours of his life.
The body was taken to Sioux City Saturday evening, the funeral being held at 9:30 Sunday morning at the German Catholic church, Rev. H. J. Schleler officiating. He was buried by the side of his mother in the German Catholic cemetery.
