I  have the following books on residents once living in Gregory County and they are excellent for family histories produced by kinfolk of these families.

These books were compiled by Adeline Gnirk of Gregory County back in the 1980’s.  I think many of these families might be researched by people not knowing they were Gregory County residents but might have a clue they were South Dakota residents.

  1. Saga of the Missouri River Reveille – Comprising Pleasant Valley, Schriever, Lindley, Whetstone, Fairfax, Star Valley, and Randall Township, and Fort Randall in Gregory County, South Dakota
  2. The Saga of Sully Flats – Comprising Lucas, Scissons, Turney, Turgeon and parts of Burke, Rhoades, Huston and landing Creek Townships in Gregory County, South Dakota
  3. The Saga of Sully Flats No. 2 – Comprising northeast Burke Civil, Lucas, Scissons, and Turgeon Townships on the Sully Flats, Gregory County, South Dakota
  4. The Saga of Ponca Land – Comprising Ellston, ;Union, Spring Valley, St. Charles, west half of Schriever Townships and the community of Milk Camp
  5. The Capitol City Saga – Comprising Burke, Rhoades, Jones, Lone Star Townships in Gregory County, SD; The Jamison area, Keya Paha County, Nebraska which was once part of the Rosebud Indian Reservation.

I grew up in the Fairfax area so have many ties to the families of this community.  Over the past 20 – 30 years, I have maintained a file on my computer at home with names of Gregory County residents.  In addition, I have been given a large 8x12 envelope stuffed full of newspaper clippings from the county during the 1940’s.  I have not digitized this collection but have scanned a few that I have on computer.– I can do Look Ups.
