Klein, Norman Duane 1929-2007

Norman Duane Klein was born February 12, 1929 at Lucas, South Dakota to Daniel and Gertrude (Roggow) Klein. He died June 1, 2007 of cancer at the Community Memorial Hospital in Burke, South Dakota at the age of 78 years.

Norman attended grade school at the Ryan School in Lucas, South Dakota until the 8th grade. He then worked the family farm and later for Pepsi-Cola of Chamberlain. He entered the Army, serving during the Korean War as a Corporal Field Wireman and was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Margie Mlady in Chamberlain on August 5, 1951.

They moved to Corvallis, Oregon in 1954 where he worked in a plywood mill. They moved back to South Dakota in 1958 to take over the family farm south of Burke, which he continued to farm for 50 years. Norman enjoyed watching Legion baseball games and the Bulldog football team. He rarely missed a Minnesota Vikings game. He had a natural talent and great love of music and could play any instrument be ear.

Norman is survived by his wife Margie; four children: Brad of Chamberlain; Doug and wife Joyce of Winner, SD; Deb of Gregory, SD; and Kelly of Rapid City, SD; seven grandchildren: Cody, Dustin, Casey, Aaron, Kary, Carleigh, and Bryce; one great-grandchild, McKenzi; two sisters: Velma and husband Glen Barnes of Rapid City, SD and Dorothy and husband Darrell Nelson of Torrance, CA. Norman was preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Gertrude; and three brothers: Harold, Howard and Norris.


Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 6, 2007 at 1:30 PM at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Burke.
