Roggow, Dan 1919-2010

Dan Roggow was born October 5, 1919 at Lucas, South Dakota to Fred and Nathalia (Deering) Roggow and he died May 10, 2010 at the Rosebud Country Care Center in Gregory, South Dakota at the age of 90 years.

Dan grew up and attended the Sunnyside School near Lucas. He was united in marriage to Stella Sufficool on October 4, 1941 at Winner, South Dakota. They lived north of Lucas before moving into Burke in 1952.

Dan began farming northeast of Lucas. He then worked as a mechanic for John Deere and later worked for the Highway Department. He also worked as a mechanic for various road construction crews. His time was spent in South Dakota, Wyoming, Montana, Nebraska and Iowa.

Dan enjoyed gardening, hunting and the outdoors. He had a true passion for music and enjoyed playing the harmonica. He loved to tinker and putter in his shop and truly enjoyed fixing things and woodworking. Dan and Stella spent 17 winters in South Carolina with their son, Dale.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Nathalia; his siblings: Emil, Woodrow, Ewald, Robert, Sam, Lawrence, Lorena and George; his son-in-law, James Lubbers; and his granddaughters: Melissa Qualkenbush and Janice Walters.

Dan is survived by his wife, Stella of Burke, SD; his children: Lynda Lubbers of Gregory, SD; Donna Preslicka and husband Albert of Gregory, SD; Mavis Bender and husband Ernest of Reston, VA; Dale Roggow of Irmo, SC; Sharon Qualkenbush and husband Timothy of Valparaiso, IN and Kathy Snider and husband Gregory of Midland, MI; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 14, 2010 at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Burke. Visitation will begin on Thursday, May 13th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
