Sheriff PICKETT arrested John HELLECKSON while in Medora, No. Dak.  Helleckson was convicted and sentenced for grand larceny in Lyman County in July, 1899. Sept. 14, 1905  Gaz

RAILROAD BRIDGE

After the ice on the river began to break up and flow, the railroad bridge began to float downstream. The RR company ordered all trains stopped between Oacoma and Rapid City. Mar 11 1909 Arg

Twenty-two sections of the railroad bridge on the east side of the island were taken out by high water on the Missouri. Driftwood can be seen 50 feet back and piled five feet above the water.  June 10 1909 Arg

Peter RUTAN saved his daughter, Miss  Jessie Rutan, after she was bitten twice on the foot by a rattlesnake. Sept. 16 1909   Arg

Sanitarium nurses

The first class of nurses from the Sanitarium in Chamberlain graduated Tuesday. An orchestra provided the music and a large crowd attended.   Aug 26 1909  Arg  

SAVILLE

Reuben SAVILLE took the teacher's examination before the county superintendent last week. He hopes to begin teaching school 10 miles west of Moore, a mile from his claim   Mar 16, 1905 Gaz

 The hearts of John HEIB, Sr. and Mrs. Kristina SCHAEFER were joined Tuesday evening, Oct. 31. The groom is 61, the bride is 58.   Nov. 9, 1905

The three Oacoma councilmen elect, Peter B. DIRKS, T.B. STRONG and J.G. BARTINE, hosted a banquet for the citizens of Oacoma on their behalf. One hundred suppers were furnished in the court room and speeches were made. Mar 18, 1909 Arg

Two churches in Oacoma observed Christmas, each with a tree for presents young and old. The Dirks Trust   and   Title Co. put a gift of $5.00 for the Sunday School on the tree at the Christian church. T.B. STRONG gave apples to place at the tree. Dec. 30, 1909   Arg

THOMAS Bros. lost many cattle due to black leg.

THOMPSON

Alonzo J. THOMPSON, an Oacoma resident for 10 years, died Saturday. The gentleman, in his 84 year, tried  twice to enlist with General Scott to serve in the Mexican War, was rejected, but eventually joined General  Scott's wagon corps. Mar 11 1909 Arg

Lower Brule resident, James THOMPSON, dropped off an order to print the constitution and by-laws of the Indian Assn. in  both the English and Indian languages. Nov 2  1905  Gaz

TIETZ

Herman TIETZ  will show his motion picture exhibit Saturday evening in Kenaston Hall. Motion pictures include bicycle parades, moving pictures, comic scenes and the Spanish-American war. Admission is 25 cents and 15 cents. Dance to follow for 50 cents a ticket.  Oct. 26 1905    Gaz

Louis WAGONER is building a cement walk in front of the Christian church lots this week.  Aug  12 1909  Arg

Milwaukee authorities located the depot on the Seamon property east of town. The railroad will pass through Oacoma north of Main Street through the Wellman block then south of the Christian church through the Wait block. Ernest WAIT will have to move his house.  May 4 1904  Gaz

 States Attorney William WILLIAMSON received the degree of LLB (Bachelor of Laws) from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion. His office is in the  Gazette-Leader building in Oacoma .   June 15 1905  Gaz
