Butte County Courthouse

The Butte County Courthouse (839 5th Avenue, Belle Fourche 57717) may have some of the following records: The Registrar of Deeds may have some birth and death records prior to 1905. All birth and death records after 1905 are recorded at the SD State Department of Health in Pierre. If any marriage records exist before 1905, they would be found in the County Treasurer's Office; after 1905, the Vital Records Division of the SD State Department of Health in Pierre has the county's marriage and divorce records.   Divorce records before 1905 may be available from the County Clerk of Courts. Probate records may be available from the County Clerk of Courts; probate records from the earliest days of the county, especially those of pre-statehood (1889), are available only at the State Archives in Pierre. County land records are kept by the Registrar of Deeds office.
