These Older QUERIES hopefully will HELP YOU with your Ancestor Research.
My name is Steve Christy
Looking for information on David Ebenezer CHRISTY who lived in or near Lebanon, SD around the turn of the century. His father and some of his brothers are buried in northwest Iowa near Sioux Rapids but David E. lived in Lebanon for several years before moving to Milton Jct., WI. He may have worked for a railroad during these years. I am a descendant of David's brother Benjamin Franklin Christy and have photos of Benjamin and David Dawson Christy, who was Benjamin and David E.'s father.

I would like to make connection with anyone that might have access to information that indicates where the Johannsen's were from in Germany. It sounds to me that our family experience is very similar. After immigrating, most contact with any family in Germany fell by the wayside. I have only broken through this barrier and actually found our family geneaolgy from the 1870 era and before. I have information waiting to be translated that gives the specifics going back to the earliest surviving church records which are probably going to be late 1600's. What remains to be found are the family of my gr-grandparents (there were 11 brothers/sisters on the Johannsen side alone).
I think there were several deaths at young ages, but there are a lot of people unaccounted for that I want to find. I truly believe that there are living ancestors from amongst the 18 children that were Hansen and Johannsen in that 1860-1880 time.
Is there anyone in the S.Dakota area that could verify death and naturalization records that you could put me in touch?
Thanks, Tom Johannsen

Looking for John MAJERUS, a native from Strassen, Luxembourg. Emigrated in 1873, first stayed in La Crosse, WI, then came to Potter County. The 1906 souvenir book of the "Luxemburger Bruderbund" (Luxembourg Brotherhood of America, Chicago) states on page 54(translated from German):
"There is still to mention John Majerus. In 1873 he was in La Crosse WI, then turned towards the Dakota gold fields in the Black Hills. He was the first settler in Potter County, South Dakota. Later he founded the Forest City P.O. and organized Potter County. For a dozen years now Majerus is living in Chicago. He was experienced many a wild adventure in the West and together with him the three brothers Thomas, Michael and Henry Fries [also from Strassen]. Often they looked into the face of death and sometimes the escaped by a hair's breadth the blood thirsty Indians, who then roamed the Dakota prairies by the thousands."
I want to make the part of fact and fiction in this report. Would also like to learn more about the founding of Forst City, which seems to have disappeared. Oahe Dam?

Any help would be appreciated.

QUERY: Herbert A. PALMER, Potter Co., Sanner twp 1900
Thank you Darrell for referring Jeannie and for taking the time to check about Palmers. I think they kept a very low profile! I know about his brother (my GGGF) but this info on his brother, Herbert is new research.
Jeannie,
Charles is my GGGF and Herbert, who I recently found in 1900* Census, his only brother. I don't yet know when he died or where.
I'd like any info or leads on his family.
Herbert A. (August?) PALMER
b. Mar1856, WI>ND, McLean, Turtle Lake>SD, Potter, Sanner twp*.
m. Mar 1876 to Ann A. ? (unknown surname).
ch1 Elmer, b. May 1882, WI
ch2 Willie, b. Sep 1888, WI (Maybe Wilbert August)
Charles Erwin PALMER,
b. 1853, WI (Rutland?)>SD,Potter, Gettysburg (1918); Brookings,Brookings.
Married Cora Ann COLE of Minetto, Oswego, NY in 1877, Johnstown, Rock, WI. They had 2 daughters: Alice "Grace" BLOTE (b. 1880) and Harriette "Hattie" C. MALTBY d. 1978, Vermillion, Clay Co., SD.
Palmer brothers parents are Reuben Barber Palmer (NY) and
Clarinda M. Gladden (or Glidden, VT). Charles, his wife and parents are all buried in Greenwood Cem., Brookings, SD. I have more info than anyone in my family on Charles but am researching his brother. I wonder now if his brother is also buried there.
W.A. Herron was a brother-in-law to Charles (wife's sister's husband).
I hope this background info will be helpful. It's about all I have so anything on this Palmer line would be gladly appreciated. I just don't have easy access to the microfilms being in Oregon. Moved here about 7 months ago from native California.
Take your time. I'll appreciate anything, even a lead. At this point, I am stuck. Still searching for new info on internet at every chance.
Thank You, Beth Blote
