Joel Dennis Altstiel

 HILL CITY — Joel Dennis Alstiel, 46, Hill City and formerly of Mitchell, SD, died Saturday, October 9, 2004, near Nemo while riding his motorcycle. 

 Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 15, 2004, at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell, S.D. with Pastor Gary Johnson officiating. 

 Inurnment will be at a later date in the Viborg Cemetery.

 Joel was born August 29, 1958, at Viborg, S.D. to Verne and Helen (Jensen) Altstiel. Joel married Jodi Schlaffman on August 19, 1980. 

 Joel suffered from heart disease and died doing what he loved. He was formerly a mechanic at Honda Mitchell, and was an instructor for the ATV safety course. He was also active in A.B.A.T.E. and the Christian Motorcycle Association where he was past Chaplain for a time. 

 He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Mitchell and was attending the Little White Church in Hill City at the time of his death. 

 He loved motorcycle riding, his family, his son Joshua, and especially his Lord. Joel will be missed, loved and well remembered by all the lives he touched. 

 A memorial has been established to the Christian Motorcycling Association. Survivors include his son Joshua Altstiel, Mitchell, S.D.; brothers, Terry Altstiel, Sturgis, and Steve Altstiel, Okinawa, Japan; one sister, Shirley Friedrichson, Huron, S.D.; also many nieces and nephews. 

 He was preceded in death by his parents, paternal and maternal grandparents and a number of aunts and uncles.
