SERVICES HELD FOR ROBERT LEE JENSEN
Robert Lee Jensen was born in rural Hurley, SD, on August 11, 1940, to Erwin and Daisy Jensen. He died February 19, 1990, at the Veterans Hospital in Sioux Falls after a long illness.
Robert grew up and attended school in Turner County, SD. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith.
Robert served in the Navy from 1958 to 1961. He took part in the Bay of Pigs Invasion.
He mangaged a service station in Sioux Falls from 1961-1966 and at that time designed, built and raced his car a Husset Speedway and W. H. Lyons race track.
From 1966-1982 he did long distance trucking. He owned and operated his own truck until 1982 when poor health forced him into retirement.
He began the Diamond J. Tack concession and enjoyed taking his bus of wares to horse shows in the area. This also gave him the opportunity to carry on one of his favorite hobbies – visiting with people from all walks of life.
Robert was married to Patricia Ferguson October 1, 1982, and at that time became father and friend to Kim and Ricky Ferguson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patty, and their children, Kim and Ricky Ferguson; and a son, Kevin Scott Jensen, from a previous marriage; a brother, Donald Jensen and his wife, Twila, of Adrian, MN; three sisters: Rosalie Harper and her husband, Lloyd of Portland, OR; Audrey Anderson and her husband, Roger, of Hurley, SD; and Joy Jensen, of Viborg, SD; a brother-in-law, Verne Altsteil and hiw wife, Judy of Viborg, SD.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Evelyn, who died in infancy, and a sister Helen Alstiel, who died in 1985.
Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson, SD, with Roger Anderson, officiating.
He will be greatly missed by his immediate family, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, other relatives, and the many friends he has acquired in the 49 years, 6 months, and 8 days of his life.
