Shomer Jensen, 84, died February 18, 2011 at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home in Viborg. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 26 at 2:00 pm at the Viborg Funeral Home.
Shomer was born March 22, 1926 near South Shore to Bennitt and Emma Marie Jensen.
He served in the US Army from 1944 to 1946 in the motor pool in Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. He married Lillian Fritz in October of 1952 and Shomer gained 2 step-children from this union. Shomer and Lillian had a son, Chris. Shomer worked for Jensen's Water Service, the Human Services Center in Yankton and helped run a group home in Nebraska and then in Missouri. Later he helped his step-son farm by Wagner and also worked at the St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain. When he returned to Yankton in 2005, he enjoyed socializing at The Moose, VFW and The Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his ex-wife Lillian, 3 brothers Lyle, Milton and Verlyn and his good friend Lucy Thompson.
Shomer is survived by his son Chris (Karen) of Yankton; 3 granddaughters Stacy (Jason) Cwach of Minot, Stephanie of Yankton and Jessica (Darren) Palmer of Yankton; 2 step-children Roger (Arliss) of Pickstown and Linda (Ralph) Lewis-Edwards of Phoenix, AZ and many step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be directed to a senior organization of your choice.
